- - Background Information
The University of Ottawa is one of Canada's leading research-intensive University. The University of Ottawa fosters excellence and success in research, whether the research is basic or applied, of intrinsic value or of commercial importance. The University of Ottawa considers itself to be Canada's university of the 21st Century by launching new initiatives in emerging areas, promoting collaboration within and across faculties, and providing the milieu in which creativity can flourish.
Further information regarding the University of Ottawa can be found on the Web site http://www.uottawa.ca/
We hereby invite your company (proponent) to partner with the University of Ottawa in this great project funded by the Canada Foundation for Innovation and the Ontario Research Fund by submitting an offer to this Request for Proposals and by including an in-kind contribution.
Please find attached the Request for Proposals documentation with specifications and the CFI guidelines pricing format to be completed and returned with your proposal.

- - Statement of Requirements
Item 18A - A Rotational Rheometer for Characterization of Polymeric Liquids. The procurement of equipment and accessories for melt and solution rheology of polymeric liquids.
Item 23B - Dynamic Mechanical Analyzer (DMA) for Polymer Testing. The procurment of equipment and accessories for dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) of polymers and composite materials.
General Description:
1.2.2 Item 18A The rheometer to be procured will provide quantitative measurements of the viscoelastic properties of polymeric liquids (melts and solutions). The instrument provides controlled deformation (typically oscillatory shear or uniaxial extension) of a liquid sample in a temperature-controlled environment and measures the viscoelastic response of the polymer as a result from the deformation. Polymer samples can be tested under a range of tempeatures and geometries to measure processing-relevant properties, behaviours, and phenomena related to fluid flow.
Item 23B
The DMA equipment to be procured will provide quantitative measurements of the solid-state mechanical and viscoelastic properties of polymeric and composite materials. The instrument provides controlled sample deformation in a temperature-controlled environment and measures the elastic and viscoelastic stresses that result from the deformation. Deformations can be applied under a wide range of temperatures and at high sensitivity to allow accurate characterization of soft matter. Samples can be tested under static loading conditions, or using oscillatory loading (ie; sinusoidal deformation) to investigate different thermomechanical properties of interest.
Both instruments will be initially situated in a small lab (CBY D-208) at the University of Ottawa on the second floor and will eventually be relocated to a larger standard lab on the fifth floor in a multi-instrument, high traffic facility.

- Should any equipment included in a proposal be superseded by a newer model during the period between the award of contract and the delivery date, the successful Proponent will be required to inform the University of Ottawa of the new specifications, the newer model pricing will remain the same as what was offered in the RFP. At its sole discretion, the University of Ottawa may opt to make changes from the list of equipment by altering, adding, or deducting some equipment.
