Description
The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure (the “Ministry”) is issuing this Request for Proposal (“RFP”) for the purpose of identifying and retaining a Contractor to provide the Services described in this RFP.
The Ministry implemented the original George Massey Tunnel (“GMT”) Reversible Lane Control System in 1981 to allow for improved traffic flow during the peak periods. As part of the GMT rehabilitation project in 2002, the original lane control system was upgraded. Now, twenty years later, it is time to rehabilitate the reversible lane control system. The GMT has used the lane control system to reverse the flow of traffic within a lane, to reduce congestion, deal with exceptional volumes (i.e., special events), manage incidents, and improve overall travel time through this important corridor. The peak period traffic flow on this structure now exceeds the available capacity. The lane control system also provides quick access for emergency vehicles bypassing queues on this corridor.
The GMT detailed lane control system design has been completed. Rehabilitation funding has been approved; the GMT lane control system rehabilitation would be completed in fiscal 2023/24.
