Description
VGN Resources Group Inc. (VGN) will be the Program Administrator for projects under the Ministry of Agriculture and Food's (Ministry) extension programming for environment and climate change. This RFP and project is administered by VGN on behalf of the Ministry.
The agriculture industry has identified a knowledge gap and extension need, to address climate change adaptation and facilitate climate adaptation, mitigation, and environmental sustainability on BC farms. In response, the ESSB is delivering a new 5-year producer-focused research and extension program that started in April 2023, called the Regional Extension Program (REP). This new program builds on past work completed under the Climate Change Adaptation Program (CCAP) and is funded by the Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership (SCAP).
The primary objective of the Regional Extension Program is to help producers adopt beneficial management practices (BMPs) that make their operations more climate resilient, sustainable, and economically viable.
Initial engagement with producers in the Islands region in 2023 identified extreme temperatures (both heat and cold) as a key topic area where extension support would be valuable. Building on these findings, this project aims to address this topic with regionally appropriate fact sheets delivered through this contract, and in addition, several field days or similar extension events to engage producers in peer-to-peer learning on the topic, support adoption of individualized adaptation, and promote the publications.
Key intended outcomes are:
Note- the event component of this project will not be contracted as part of this contract.
