Sealed tenders clearly marked “Stz’uminus First Nation, Long Term Water Supply Chemainus 13” will be received by Chatwin Engineering Ltd., 1614 Morey Road, Nanaimo, BC V9S 1J7, up until 3:00pm on May 14, 2024 and will be opened at the office of Chatwin Engineering Ltd. and also broadcast via a zoom video conference call at that time, please email jeff@chatwinengineering.com for an invitation to the video call.
The work generally consists of the following:
To construct a new water supply system for the Stz’uminus First Nation. The water supply system will include:
The Owner will consider a material substitution of HDPE for the 10 km of water supply main. The material substitution is included in the tender documents and referred to as the ‘Material Substitution Tender Alternative’. A separate civil drawing set is provided and the Form of Tender contains the Division 33 – Utilities for HDPE and a separate summary for the ‘Material Substitution Tender Alternative’. The Owner requires tenderers bid on both material options.
Tender documents are available for downloading from BC Bid at no charge.
Hard copies of the tender documents are available to be picked up at the offices of Chatwin Engineering in person with payment by cheque of a non-refundable fee of $565.00 including GST payable to Chatwin Engineering Ltd. during normal business hours of 8:00am-5:00pm. Please provide notice if picking up documents by calling Chatwin Engineering at 250-753-9171.
Each tender must be accompanied by a bid bond or certified cheque of 10% of the tender price made payable to the Stz’uminus First Nation. A consent of surety confirming a labour and material bond and a performance bond each in the amount of 50% of the total tender sum will be required.
A general contractors’ registry will be maintained during this tender period at the offices of Chatwin Engineering for the purpose of supplier enquiries. General contractors wishing to bid on this contract are to notify Chatwin Engineering to be placed on the General Contractors Registry for this project by emailing Gary Hall at gary@chatwinengineering.com.

To construct a new water supply system for the Stz’uminus First Nation. The water supply system will include:
- 10 km of PVC water supply main between Qal’um 14 and Chemainus 13.
- Water Treatment Building on Qal’um 14 constructed of prefabricated insulated concrete sandwich panels, pre-engineered wood roof truss and steel roof. The Water Treatment Building includes a garage, tool room, electrical room, mechanical room and chemical room.
- A sodium hypochlorite disinfection system.
- Submersible well pumps and appurtenances installed in the 2x existing 300 mm dia well casings on Qal’um 14.
- Gravel maintenance roads to access the water supply main on Oyster Bay 12 and Chemainus 13, including a large creek crossing on Chemainus 13.
- Improvements to the existing reservoir and reservoir site on Chemainus 13.
