Description
CNC is undertaking the renewal of its Information Technology (IT) network and supporting infrastructure across all six CNC Campuses (Burns Lake, Ft St James, Mackenzie, Prince George, Quesnel and Vanderhoof). To reduce the complexity of the overall project, it has been divided into two distinct, yet interconnected work streams. Stream 1, the Information Technology (IT) Network stream, will design the new network and develop the Bill of Materials (BoM). This stream will also order equipment and replace, configure, install, test, and document new firewalls, Wi-Fi access points, and switches.
Stream 2, the Physical Infrastructure stream, is within the Scope of Work for this project and will focus on upgrading existing network spaces, providing new network spaces, and installing new network cabling and supports. Upgrading the existing network spaces presents an interesting challenge as each closet is unique and requires specific upgrades. Adding to the complexity is the requirement that the current equipment housed in the network spaces must remain operational throughout the duration of the upgrades. Approximately ten new network spaces will be constructed to replace portions of the existing IT network requiring stakeholder meetings and the redesign of existing spaces. Upgrading the network cabling at all campuses involves the installation of new interior and exterior network cabling and supports, as well as the review and assessment of existing network cabling and supports.
The structure of the network cabling presents a complex design challenge, including mapping existing cabling routes, creating new cabling routes, and evaluating existing cabling and supports for reuse. Additionally, determining the need for a new underground conduit at the Prince George campus and obtaining the necessary permit may be required.
