Notice is hereby given by The Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General of it's intent to direct award a contract for the following services:
Name: The Canadian Mental Health Association (South and Central Okanagan)
The contractor will provide programs to the Okanagan Correctional Centre that will assist clients. The contractor will provide 3 programs to the Okanagan Correctional Centre that will assist clients with develop strategies to help them meet their own needs and also to develop practical skills for coping with stress, problem solving, etc. The programs offered:
Living Life to the Full
Living Life to the Full provides simple, practical skills for coping with stress, problem solving, boosting your mood, and busting bad thoughts. Living Life to the Full certified facilitators present a new topic at each class, bringing the skills to life though booklets, worksheets, group activities and discussions. Living Life to the Full is based on principles of cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT), and has been shown in research studies in the UK and Canada to be effective at improving resilience, well-being, mood, anxiety and social support.
Living Life to the Full is delivered per session. Each session is 4 classes of 3 hours of instruction. In order to complete Living Life to the Full and receive a certificate; individuals in custody will need to complete all 4 classes of a session.
Self-Advocacy
Self-Advocacy enables participants to develop strategies that help them meet their own needs in constructive ways. This is done through content delivery and experiential learning with psychosocial outcomes. By the end of the program participants will improve their ability to: Identify their what they want, make a plan for having their needs met, develop strategies for self-regulation when they feel they are not being heard, utilize conflict management skills, and learn how to get support when needed.
Self-Advocacy is delivered per session. Each session is 1 class of 3 hours of instruction. In order to complete Self-Advocacy and receive a certificate; individuals in custody will need to complete one complete class.
Mental Health Coping Skills
During this workshop participants will be able to learn critical skills for dealing with mental health challenges that occur on a regular basis as well as recognize when they might need additional supports. By the end of this workshop participants will be able to:
- Understand how anxiety, depression, anger, and happiness move on a continuum.
- Recognize emotions they feel and understand what those emotions might be telling them.
- Learn ways to use cognitive and somatic coping skills to help regulate emotions, thoughts, physical symptoms and behaviors.
- Feel more comfortable with experiencing diverse emotions.
- Know signs and symptoms that might indicate the presence of anxiety, depression, or other mental health challenges that requires professional help.
- Identify community support services.
- Access community support services relevant to their needs.
- Reduce stigma around asking for help.
- Know when and how to get help for friends and family members they are concerned about.
Mental Health Coping Skills is delivered per session. Each session is 1 class of 3 hours of instruction. In order to complete Mental Health Coping Skills and receive a certificate; individuals in custody will need to complete one complete class.
The current offering request will be for 4 classes Living Life to the Full, 6 classes in Self-Advocacy and 2 classes of Mental Health Coping Skills. Each class will host up to 12 individuals in custody.
Contract Amount: $17,690.00 (plus 1 option year)
Contract Term: April 1, 2023 - March 31, 2024 (plus 1 option year)
Challenge Criteria: A challenge to this Direct Award should include their objections in relation to: The above aspects of the Direct Award Reasoning as well as their ability to provide the same level of service at a lower cost within the same timeframe.
