Transit Snow Removal

The City of Lethbridge is requesting proposals for the clearing of all snow and ice buildup off the bus stops and transit sites throughout the city. This will be accomplished through the use of various snow removal equipment, and ice melting substances. It must be noted that in most areas only small hand and small motorized type equipment will be accepted for use due to the demographics of the areas. The use of a skid steer loader will be limited. Any area’s that require slip control will be done through the application of an effective ice melter product or approved traction control/abrasive. The contractor will be responsible to monitor the conditions of the stops for any slip hazards or build ups due to, snow falls, drifting, snow thrown onto stops due to plowing activities and slippery conditions caused by wet snow, freezing rain and the thaw freeze cycle. Upon identifying any issues, the appropriate action must be taken to rectify the problem. Lethbridge Transit personal may also contact the contractor if they identify any issues that need to be addressed. All bus stop ice and snow build up issues must be addressed within 24 hours of the end of a snow event to prevent incidents. Prime consideration is maintaining the sites in reasonably safe condition as to mitigate slip and fall concerns. Snow clearing and ice removal for the Transit sites is required any time that the snowfall including drifting snow accumulates to three (3) centimeters or more. During sustained snowfall events that last over 24 hours, the removal of snow and the application of ice melter (if required) must be completed every 12 hours.
