    Description
Early Childhood Educators (ECEs) play a critical role in providing education and care for young children. To work as an ECE in a licensed child care facility in B.C. one must be certified by the ECE Registry. In order to become certified, individuals must meet specific education requirements. If an individual has not completed a program that is recognized by the ECE Registry, they must submit additional education documents so that ECE Registry staff can determine if the individual’s education is equivalent. This often includes transcripts and course outlines/syllabi.
If an individual’s education documents are not in English, the documents must be translated to English by a certified translator. Currently, individuals are responsible for the full cost of having their documents translated. The cost of translation may deter individuals from proceeding with their application.
Using $0.750M provided through the 2021-2025 Canada-B.C. Early Learning and Child Care Agreement (ELCC Agreement), B.C. aims to reduce financial barriers for ECE Registry applicants who require document translation by offsetting translation costs.
    Translation services:
The Ministry of Education and Child Care, herein after referred to as the “Ministry,” is seeking a contractor to provide accurate document translation of educational documents (e.g., transcripts, course outlines/syllabi) for a person applying for certification with the ECE Registry.
Translations from a variety of languages to English are to be completed by Certified Translators or Associate Translators. The Contractor will be responsible for accurate translations of a person’s educational documents (e.g., transcripts and course outlines/syllabi) and for coordinating and completing these translations in a timely manner.
The Contractor will be expected to provide written translation of one or more languages into English to approximately 250 ECE Registry applicants. The maximum funding allocated per applicant is $2,500. Should translation costs exceed the maximum allowable per person funding, the Contractor will be responsible for invoicing the applicant directly. The Contractor will coordinate translations and submit complete documents to the ECE Registry in a timely manner following receipt of the original documents. The Contractor will submit reports as requested and required by the Ministry.
