CGE have two streams of programming - Global Encounters and Youth Dialogues The first stream, Global Encounters, are short engagements around specific themes. Offered at all K-12 levels, Encounters start with an activity guide that is sent to teachers 3 weeks in advance that includes 2-3 lesson plans and culminate to a global videoconference that join students alongside an expert co-host. The 45min interactive video conference events involve learning as well as plenty of time for students to ask questions, participate in polls and quizzes, and share stories/ thoughts/ artwork from their unique global location. Global Encounters programs are often themed on United Nations and International Days. Some upcoming examples include: World Water Day, World Book Day, Canadian Mental Health Week, and Intl. Day Against Homophobia & Transphobia. The second stream, Youth Dialogues, are more in-depth topic engagements for Gr 7-`12 students. They typically run from 6-weeks to 3 months and involve multiple local, national, or global touch points between participating schools. Youth Dialogues are focused on a single topic (e.g. Biodiversity) and participating students develop a deep understanding of an issue and how it impacts them in their lives and communities. Students then build real skills in dialogue, critical thinking, and action as they share their learning, lived experiences, and perspectives with peers and develop action and advocacy plans.
