Estimation of Atlantic Salmon Populations in Digby County Rivers

CMAR requires salmon population estimates for the Meteghan, Salmon, and Belliveau rivers in Digby County, Nova Scotia. Data collection and population estimate methodology must be recognized by Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) and North Atlantic Salmon Conservation Organization (NASCO). It is expected that standard morphometrics (e.g. sex, weight, dimensions, etc.) will be collected from captured salmon, where possible. This will include scale collection and a tissue sample for later stable isotope and genetic analysis, respectively. Select water samples should be strategically collected and fixed appropriately to support eDNA analysis (presence- absence). Basic water quality parameters such as temperature should also be measured during the assessment.
